Artist Spotlight Lisa Laubhan

My name is lisa laubhan. I am originally from Southern California but have been living in New York for the past 6 years with my husband and elves! I love the seasons on the east coast as we really don't have any in SOCAL! The winter being least favorite! NYC truly inspires me with all the diversity, colors and textures. There is so much art to view in galleries and on the street. Amazingly creative! It actually humbles me so much...

The smallest elf in my family has finally ventured into full day school, so that leaves me time to expand my passion for jewelry design and take it to the next level. I have been into art for most of my life. Mainly working with mixed media and found objects on canvas or wood and have produced for television and film. During my last pregnancy I started designing jewelry.

Most necklaces that I saw on the streets, I had seen some where before. Nothing popped! Nothing inspiring! So I started obsessively searching the city, wholesalers and trade shows for special items and on my family vacations I would look for pendants, beads, etc. My husband travels for work, so I send him on missions looking for unique pieces, as well! A lot of these items are one of a kind or very hard to find. Hence lisa laubhan "One of a Kind Jewelry". Every necklace I create has a story. I was wearing one of my creations one day and someone literally bought it off my neck. And so my business adventure began...

handmade necklaces, handmade jewlery

I don't plan my designs. They come to me as I walk through the day, sleep at night or see something that catches my eye (usually a color or texture). I love looking through architecture magazines. The ads are so color inspiring. I create what I like. Would I wear that? My clients are all different and the necklaces they wear should fit who they are and the life they walk. I love to watch different clients try on the same necklace. And that necklace will look different on every person that tries it on. It is an amazing process. It is also fun to see who purchases what and what necklace will sell first.

In my spare time I love teaching art to children. Collecting recycled objects and furniture and turning it into something beautiful and fun. Running with my children. Out of control laughter. Exploring NYC with my husband. Exchanging ideas with my friends. Chatting with my wonderful mother. And living life to the fullest.

I currently sell on etsy, local stores and private shows.
